He successively pursued a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Toronto and an MBA at the Business School of the University of Cambridge in the UK.

In 1998, he returned to China and founded Venturepharma  National Model Worker, recipient of the National May Day Medal Outstanding Overseas Entrepreneur awarded by The State Council.
